A star is a formation where the dancers put their hands into the center (usually right hands first) like the rays of a star. They then dance round in the direction they are facing. The dancers then usually change hands and dance back the opposite direction.

The term star is normally used in ceilidh dancing.

The official term for this formation is x hands across where x is the number of dancers.
