The Targe is danced in 8 bars with 2 bars to each part. The formation starts with the ladies in the centre of the set with right hands joined, 1st lady facing up and 2nd lady facing down. The men are beside their partner facing the opposite direction.

  • ladies dance a ¾ right hand turn while men dance ¼ way round anticlockwise
  • 1st man with 2nd lady & 2nd man with 1st lady dance a full left hand turn
  • ladies dance a further ¾ right hand turn while men dance a further ¼ way round anticlockwise
  • 1st man with 2nd lady & 2nd man with 1st lady turn left hand to finish on the sides, 1s facing up and 2s facing down
